How Technology Has Shaped Our World

Doesn't the title sound grand? It definitely implies that human kind has changed the face of the earth with their mindboggling technological prowess. Actually, that is not untrue! We have indeed come a long way since the days of the wheel, even the days of the printing press and the steam engine! Today, we have come to a point where accessing information and knowledge is possible from practically any corner of the world.

The internet has changed the way information and knowledge are accessed, processed and even created to some degree. The medium is the message, and in the case of the internet, the message is clear, easy, light and fast access to information, even while you're on the move.

You can browse the internet on Smartphones and PDAs and with the coming of ultra slim tablets, you can even access the internet with a Tablet Sim, no matter where you are. Gadgets are becoming slimmer and smaller and more compact, and the little magic bullets that sit inside them are also becoming smaller and smaller.

Of course, we must also consider whether all this technology is helping the entire world become a better place, or is it merely consumer technology, where all the applications of this amazing science are mainly used to create objects that people can buy for momentary and individual pleasures?

The answer is that we live in a world where innovation and change are driven by the market, and the market is driven by consumers and manufacturers. So yes, technology is mainly used for developing consumer goods, but there are no limitations on how technology can be used, and surely technology is already being used by creative human minds for the betterment of society!
